Occoneechee Speedway opened in 1947 on an old horse farm outside Hillsborough, North Carolina — one of the first tracks NASCAR ever ran a points race on. Junior Johnson raced here. So did Richard Petty, who won the last race the track ever held, in September of 1968, before the place went quiet for good.
Sam at Brothers Design Co. built this print as a tribute to that stretch of dirt and the tracks like it — the ones drivers ran for the passion, the drive, and the community around the sport. A skeleton behind the wheel of a '57 stock car, number 26, kicking up a wall of smoke off the back stretch. Pines line the track the way they did at Occoneechee. The full scene runs across the back; a small Clayborn script sits on the chest.
No trophy, no plaque. Just the track, the smoke, and the drivers who never slowed down for either.
